Chicago authorities say they have identified the 79-year-old woman who died in an apartment fire in Rogers Park.

A 79-year-old woman died in an apartment fire in the Rogers Park neighborhood Thursday night, Chicago police said.

CHICAGO (WLS) — Chicago police say a 79-year-old woman died in an apartment fire in the Rogers Park neighborhood Thursday night. Authorities were called to a fire at a three-story apartment building in the 6500 block of North Ashland Avenue around 8:47 p.m.

The 79-year-old woman was found in the basement and taken to St. Francis Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, police said.

She was later identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office as Bertha Torres.
