FSU edge rusher named ‘Best Spring Play’ in college football

The newly acquired Seminoles have a chance to have a breakout season in 2024.

The Florida State Seminoles completely busted the transfer portal this offseason. But this is nothing new for Mike Norvell. That’s what helped him turn around the program in Tallahassee with a consistent approach on and off the field. The addition of DJ Uiagalelei at center adds stability to an offense that features wide receivers Jaylen Brown and Malik Benson. The offense will continue to be great, but with the introduction of a 12-team system this season, an elite defense could be the key to the Seminoles making the College Football Playoff. The Seminoles had 10 players call their names in the 2024 NFL Draft, but they appeared to bounce back and reload. They were able to demonstrate this at the program’s spring exhibition a few weeks ago. The Georgia State offensive lineman and Florida State offensive lineman was named the Spring Game Outstanding Player for his performance and standout play this spring. Seminole tradition Marvin Jones Jr. was selected as a standout.

“Marvin Jones Jr. appears poised for a breakout season at Florida State, which appears to have a lot of transfer activity under head coach Mike Norvell. The former Georgia offensive lineman made his presence felt in the Seminoles’ spring game despite a ban on quarterback sacks,” Nagel wrote.

After two seasons at Georgia, Jones Jr. struggled to find consistent snaps. This isn’t a shock to the former four-star recruit, however. The Bulldogs were loaded with talent and depth at every position, as they always have some of the best recruiting classes. Instead of continuing to fight for snaps or competing with other players at his position, Jones Jr. will be able to don the Garnet, Gold and Shine right away.

“Jones put pressure on the pocket and nearly intercepted the ball from quarterback DJ Uiagalelei. Jones spent the past two seasons in a limited role at Georgia, but could be part of Florida State’s powerful one-two punch in 2024. He is the son of former Seminole legend and NFL veteran Marvin Jones, where he played 10 years. “continuation. Florida State has always had strong, talented players during the Norvell era, and next season will be nothing new as Jones Jr. will display all of that talent. He showed glimpses of that in the spring game, but consistent snaps should free him up this fall. Because he’s likely to be a star in Tallahassee.
