Bears Win Business Community Builder Award at BUILD Gala

Since 2012, the Bears have developed a strong partnership with BUILD (Broader Urban Involvement & Leadership Development), one of Chicago’s leading anti-gang, violence prevention and youth development organizations. Through after-school activities, summer camps, mental health services, educational support and a sense of community, BUILD impacts more than 6,500 youth and their families each year. As proud supporters of BUILD’s mission, the Bears provided financial assistance through the team’s charitable arm, Bears Care, and offered youth the opportunity to tour Halas Hall, attend to a training camp and learn more about the organization.

BUILD honored the team’s commitment Friday evening at its annual gala on the city’s southwest side by naming Bears and Bears Care Builder this year’s business community. This award is given annually to an organization that believes in helping young people become great people. Bears has become one of Chicago’s prominent philanthropic organizations, and recent recipients include BMO Harris Bank, Baird, and Target Corporation.

“We know that the Bears are not only strong supporters of Build, but also engaged our youth in giving them ideas and opportunities to think about what their future in the sport could be. ” said Adam Alonso, CEO of Build. “You don’t have to be a Sunday or Monday night football player. You can really be a behind-the-scenes person and all these positions are needed. There are investments in youth. We love that BUILD and the Bears are partnering together for the youth of the city of Chicago.

Bears President George H. Makkasky attended a strictly SOLE celebration with his wife Barb to accept the award on behalf of the whole organization. They have participated in the stage by partner writer Bears Gabi Hidek, Customer Service Coordinator Carim Hill, and Mattimion, a public relations and graduate director. McCaskey thanked Alonso and Bild for their great work in the community, adding: “Keep building hope. Keep building life. Keep building the future. »

“This is a great opportunity for us to think about what we can do to make the greatest city in the world even better,” McCaskey said of the Bears’ continued support of BUILD. “The work that BUILD is doing at the local level is so impressive. The Bears are honored to be a part of this effort.

The Bears have strengthened his local experience by repeatedly hosting his BUILD students in Halas Hall. In 2022, general manager Ryan Pauls hosted the team’s first scouting school, where BUILD students were introduced to the role of scouting in the NFL through film screenings and a mock NFL joint station experience.

Two weeks after Scout School, Alonso was named the Bears’ first Inspire Changemaker, a league-wide initiative that recognizes people who are making a difference in their communities. As part of this award, BUILD received a $10,000 grant from the NFL Foundation through Bears Care.

Porras continued his support of the organization last fall when he visited BUILD’s Humboldt Park campus and met with various staff and students. Last year, the Bears partnered with Amazon to host more than 40 BUILD and Youth Orientation students at Halas Hall. Both organizations received her $25,000 donation from Amazon, and each student was given a tablet. The group also met with several Bears players and joined their social circle.

Alonso thanked the entire BUILD organization and its young people for their continued support. He also thanked the Bears for their commitment to the community not only during the 18 weeks of the NFL season, but throughout the year.

Alonso’s favorite part was seeing McCaskey represent the organization at the gala. “It makes sense,” Alonso said. “We appreciate everyone in the Bears organization, but obviously the McCaskey family coming and being here — as the leader of the entire operation, I think that’s humbling. George is a normal guy. He was great when we were together. He packed the set with us, sat down and pumped with us -a very humble and very wonderful man. I am very happy that he is there to accept the price of Bears. \ “
