Lando Norris has Max Verstappen’s F1 rivals daring to dream with proof Red Bull are beatable

Lando Norris has, for a long time now, been a fans’ favourite on the Formula 1 grid.

But there was always one thing that people could hold against him. Prior to the weekend’s Miami Grand Prix, he had started 109 F1 races and won a grand total of zero. At the 110th attempt, Norris finally delivered on the promise he has shown for years.

And, after he held off Max Verstappen in the mighty Red Bull to do it, F1 could not have had a more popular race-winner than the McLaren star. The Dutchman was the first to hail Norris, who he has described as his best friend in the F1 paddock.

Hamilton said: “I am so happy for Lando and McLaren. They have both been doing a great job and they deserve today’s victory. It’s great to see McLaren so competitive. I also know how special it is to get your first Grand Prix victory, so a big well done to Lando.”

And Mercedes team-mate Russell added: “A massive well done to Lando and McLaren. He truly deserves it and, all told, he probably deserves to have more than one victory already by now. We’ve been racing each other for a long time. He’s put so much hard work in and I had no doubts that he would win in F1. I’m very happy for him.”

Others names on the now 21-man list of victorious British F1 drivers include legends like James Hunt, Sir Jackie Stewart, Nigel Mansell and Damon Hill. Norris still has some way to go before he can retire with a legacy like those who have come before him.
