NBC has hired Golf Channel analyst Brandel Chamblee to support its lead commentary team for the U.S. Open, which will be held at No. 2 Pinehurst in June. The move comes as NBC seeks a replacement for Paul Azinger, whose contract was not renewed last year. NBC will take a unique approach to the tournament this year, introducing four-man teams and an “odd-even” hole allocation system. Mike Tirico and Brad Faxon will appear on the primetime odd-numbered holes, while Chamblee will join the poetic voice of Dan Hicks on the even-numbered holes. This new strategy aims to provide more context and dialogue between analysts and journalists, improving the viewer experience. Additionally, veteran journalist Jim “Bones” McKay returns after parting ways with Justin Thomas before the Masters, with Roger Maltby and Gary Koch reprising their roles.
