RORY McILROY rushed to hospital for a scan on his injured wrist last night after playing through the pain barrier at the USPGA.

The US Open champion jarred his right wrist on the third hole playing his ball from the root of a tree.

And the Ulsterman needed ice treatment, massage, strapping and painkillers to complete an extraordinary level-par round of 70.

But the pre-tournament favourite could be forced to pull out of the final Major of the year today if the MRI scans reveal he is in danger of inflicting long-term damage.

He said: “I thought I might get away with it [the shot] but I jarred my right wrist and forearm and was in a lot of pain after that.
