Larry Bird Opens “Hickory Hall” – A Free Basketball Academy for Underprivileged Kids

French Lick, IN – Basketball legend Larry Bird has announced the opening of “Hickory Hall,” a state-of-the-art basketball academy for underprivileged children in his hometown of French Lick, Indiana.

The academy, which is completely free to attendees, will offer top-notch coaching, training, and mentorship to kids aged 8-18. Bird, who grew up playing basketball in the same community, wants to give back and provide opportunities for young athletes to develop their skills and build character.

“I remember when I was a kid, basketball saved my life,” Bird said in a statement. “I want to give that same chance to every kid in our community, regardless of their background or financial situation.”

Hickory Hall will also offer academic support, nutrition counseling, and life skills training to help students succeed both on and off the court.

The academy’s inaugural class has already started, with over 50 students enrolled. Bird himself will be leading coaching sessions and mentoring students, alongside a team of experienced coaches and volunteers.
