Rory McIlroy and Brooks Koepka, both in peak form, are set to be strong contenders for the Wannamaker Trophy at Valhalla during this week’s PGA Championship.

McIlroy is riding high on a wave of success with consecutive PGA Tour victories, clinching the Zurich Classic of New Orleans alongside Shane Lowry and then outclassing Xander Schauffele to secure his fourth Wells Fargo Championship triumph.

Koepka enters the fray in Kentucky on the back of a commanding win at LIV Golf Singapore. Known for stepping up his game at the majors, he’s tipped as one of the few who could challenge the current world number one Scottie Scheffler for the title at Valhalla.

Their rivalry came into sharp focus in 2019 when Koepka made a pointed remark about McIlroy, who hasn’t clinched a major title since 2014. “I’ve been out here for, what, five years. Rory hasn’t won a major since I’ve been on the PGA Tour. So I just don’t view it as a rivalry,” Koepka famously quipped.
