Xander Schauffele sets new record with 62 points at PGA Championship

The 106th PGA Championship is underway. But it didn’t take long to make history. Seeking his first major title, Xander Schauffele shot a 62 in the first round, flying through Valhalla like a man on fire. It was a new course record, and even more impressive, it was the first 62 in PGA Championship history.

Believe it or not, 62 points in a major tournament is familiar territory for Schauffele. He shot a 62 at the Los Angeles Country Club at the U.S. Open in Los Angeles last year. These two of his results make him the only player to win a pretty impressive title, making him the first player to hit a two-round 62 in a major championship. But whatever the story related to his score is, Shaauferé is looking at things.

\ “This is a great start for a big tournament. It’s obvious that I always choose,” Schauffele said after the round. “But today is still Thursday. That’s all”.

Schauffele started the first round on the 10th hole and hit the gas pedal with birdies on the 11th, 13th, 15th, 16th and 18th. This was a classic example of quality ball hitting, with consecutive birdies off the tee. Before new item. Schauffele made quick work of Nos. 2, 4, 5 and 7 and added four birdies for an impressive 62 points.

But it’s not the birdie that Schauffele remembers after the round. Instead, it was a tricky par at No. 12 that likely kept the momentum going.

“I kind of drew a 3-tree there. I asked Austin (caddie) how far he got to the pin. he said to me: 225 people are down.''I thought it was going to be quite a challenge,” Schauffele said. “So I kind of chopped it up there and then picked it up somewhere on the green to 15 feet and was able to make that putt early in the round, which was a big deal for me.”

As he escaped, Schauffele knows this is only the first round. And in a tournament as important as the PGA Championship, with the strongest field in golf hot on its heels, there is still a lot of golf to be played. “The summit seems far away and I feel like I have a lot of work ahead of me,” Schauffele said. \”But . Elasticity Reduce it gradually.

Are you currently 62 years old? Yes, it feels really good. “I can score 62 points in any major at any time.”
