Deion Sanders moves down in CBS Sports’ updated head coach rankings

CBS Sports released its rankings of the 2024 Power Four college football head coaches this week, and to the surprise of some, Colorado’s Deion Sanders came in last on Tom Fornelli’s list. Ta.

Coach Prime was ranked 55th in last year’s rankings, but after leading the Buffs with four wins in his first season, he dropped six spots to 61st. Only seven head coaches ranked below Sanders, including No. 64 Arizona State’s Kenny Dillingham.

Georgia’s Kirby Smart topped the list at No. 1, while Utah’s Kyle Whittingham ranked sixth among Big 12 head coaches. Here’s what Fornelli wrote about Sanders’ placement at No. 61:

No coach has ever attracted so much attention and so few noticeable results. Coach Prime came out of the gate hot last season, winning his first three games and defeating Nebraska and TCU, but the hype quickly cooled. The coaching staff and the roster have been restructured and it will soon be known if the second phase of this great experiment will be more successful, otherwise it is unclear whether there will be a third course.
