Walters is considered one of the most prosperous American bettors, and he delves deep into his connection with Mickelson in the book.According to Walters, he and Mickelson teamed up in 2008 and worked together for approximately five years. Walters also noted that Mickelson had two offshore betting accounts back then, which accepted large wagers.Walters further explained that Mickelson’s betting limits for college football and NFL games were set at $400,000 per sport. Walters recounted an incident where Mickelson reached out to him to place a bet on the U.S. team for the Ryder Cup. Mickelson, along with Woods and Watson, was part of the team and seemed optimistic about their chances of winning.Walters questioned Mickelson if he had gone crazy and reminded him of Pete Rose’s ban from baseball for betting on his team. He compared Mickelson to Arnold Palmer and expressed his disapproval of the situation, refusing to be involved.”Mickelson responded with an “okay,” but it was uncertain if he followed through with the bet. In a single day in June of that year, Walters says Mickelson made 43 bets on MLB games and took more than $143,000 in losses.Mickelson’s reps didn’t immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.Mickelson’s gambling habit has been in the public view over the last near decade. Court documents in 2015 revealed nearly $3 million was transferred from Mickelson to a third party as part of an “illegal gambling operation,” according to ESPN. He was reportedly linked to an alleged mob bookie in 2007.He was not charged in any of those cases.In 2014, Walters and Mickelson were implicated in an insider trading controversy.Walters was found guilty of conspiracy, securities fraud, and wire fraud in 2017. Mickelson chose not to give testimony during the trial and was not accused in the investigation. He eventually resolved a civil lawsuit with the SEC and committed to returning the profits he gained from trading, as reported by Golf Digest.
