Grayson Murray’s caddie posts heart-wrenching tribute to ‘generous’ boss and friend

The caddie of Grayson Murray, Jay Green, shared a touching tribute to the golfer who was pronounced dead on Saturday.

PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan shared the news of Murray’s passing, just a day after he withdrew from Friday’s second round of the Charles Schwab Challenge. Murray informed his fellow golfers that he was not feeling well, and the 30-year-old sadly passed away.

Green became Murray’s caddie towards the end of last year and grew very close with the American as they won the Sony Open in Hawaii back in January. “Grayson was the absolute best. Not only was he an incredible, thoughtful and generous boss, he was an even better friend,” Green said in a text message via GolfChannel.

The golfing world was shocked to hear the news of Murray’s passing after Monahan released the unexpected statement. “We were devastated to learn – and are heartbroken to share – that PGA Tour player Grayson Murray passed away this morning,” Monahan said in a statement.

“I am at a loss for words. The PGA Tour is a family, and when you lose a member of your family, you are never the same. We mourn Grayson and pray for comfort for his loved ones.”

The Charles Schwab Challenge could have been cancelled following the tragic circumstances, but Murray’s parents requested that the competition continue as they were “adamant” it’s what their son would’ve wanted. “I reached out to Grayson’s parents to offer our deepest condolences, and during that conversation, they asked that we continue with tournament play,” Monahan added.
