Charley Hull has apparently started smoking in order to quit vaping after the World No 8 went viral this week for signing autographs with a lit cigarette in her mouth.

Doing her finest John Daly impression, the 28-year-old Hull puffed away while giving fans a memento from the US Women’s Open.

The footage went viral on social media – as is often the case when Daly himself turns up to a major with a lit cigarette – and it has now been claimed that there is unorthodox reason behind Hull smoking.

A reporter for GOLF.Com, Zephyr Melton, claimed on Twitter: ‘Best tidbit of the week from a longtime LPGA caddie: Said Charley told him she was smoking cigarettes so she can quit vaping’.

The images of Hull smoking weren’t missed by her fellow competitors at this week’s event in Pennsylvania – at Lancaster Country Clubs

World No. 1 Nelly Korda was seen on Wednesday showing it to Hull and fellow golfer Megan Khang as the three shared a laugh. 

Hull, 28, has won twice on the LPGA Tour and is a three-time winner on the Ladies European Tour. 

She began playing golf at the age of 2 with her father at her home course in Kettering, Northamptonshire and turned pro at the age of 17 in 2013.

Last year, Hull was diagnosed with ADHD and has been open in how fitness has helped her with managing symptoms.

‘When I feel like I’m struggling, I go to the gym,’ Hull told Sky Sports in an interview in April. ‘I decided not to take any medication as I feel that I can manage it myself.
